May 25, 2016 · Fore and aft lead positions control headsail leech tension and foot depth. As a rough guide, set the lead so the sheet bisects the clew, applying approximately equal tension to leech and foot. (An imaginary line extending from the sheet up through the sail would hit the middle of the sail’s luff.) Multiply the J dimension times the size sail you want and this will give you the LP of the sail. For example, lets say your boat has a J dimension of 12 feet, and you are looking for a 150% Genoa. Simply multiply your J of 12 feet times 1.5 to get an LP of 18' for your 150% Genoa. Headsail Bag Posted by Georges Péron on 5th Aug 2019 I looked online for foredeck sail bags and found Lees had the best offerings and great reviews. I had hoped that there would be an option to add a top zipper opening to drop the foresail into the bag and leave the jib sheets attached. Jib sheets attach to the aft-most corner of the jib (the clew) and run back to the cockpit on both sides of the boat. The jib sheets are used to trim the sail in or ease it out. Consider using a soft shackle to tie your jib sheets to the sail. The best position for a lazy sheet to be in is slack but ready to be tensioned by being wrapped around the winch in a clockwise direction one or two times. Another line attached to the headsail is the halyard. The halyard is the line used solely for hoisting and lowering the headsail.

Sep 28, 2010 · The most obvious benefit of this type of rig is the ability to have multiple headsails ready to deploy. On the headstay, we carry our No. 1, a 145-percent genoa, and we have our 125-percent genoa, the No. 2, on the inner forestay. These two sail sizes are what the boat came with. A third headsail, a 90-percent jib, is carried on the staysail stay. Aug 17, 2006 · What are the limits to sheeting angle? For a genoa with the sheets outside the shrouds, the limit is usually the shrouds or the spreaders. If a jib is sheeted too tight, the mainsail usually becomes severely backwinded. However, on the boat in the photo, the jib traveller is only the width of the cabin top.
