Slow dusk carlisle floyd sheet music

Fi1236 datasheet

Carlisle Floyd (born June 11, 1926) is an American opera composer. The son of a Methodist minister, he has based many of his works on themes from the South. His best known opera, Susannah (1955), is based on a story from the Biblical Apocrypha, transferred to contemporary, rural Tennessee, and is set in a Southern dialect. Though he has composed many operas over his long career, so far Susannah stands out as Carlisle Floyd's lasting contribution to the genre. One of the most perennially popular American operas, it has earned a place in the repretory of companies inside and outside the U.S. Floyd's powerful adaptation of Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men has also recently drawn some well-deserved attention. Two one-act operas by Carlisle Floyd are being presented by The Little Opera Theater of NY, newly arranged for chamber orchestra. One is a very early work, the other is mature, and for those who are interested in the material this is a worthwhile presentation of music you're unlikely to encounter elsewhere anytime soon. From the beginning of his career, Carlisle Floyd was interested primarily in opera, and furnished all of his own libretti. His first effort in the genre was Slow Dusk (1949) given at Syracuse. Floyd's next opera, Fugitives (1951), was withdrawn after a single performance at Florida State.

Ecb300 vs ecb350 datasheet

On his own terms, Slow Dusk (1949), almost works, but ultimately Floyd’s music is unable to overcome the weakness of his own libretto. The story—which began as a Floyd short story—is just a scenario, and a clichéd one at that: forbidden young love struck by tragedy. There is a narrative, but no dramatic theme.
