Panel systems are those systems that use swelling Bentonite encapsulated either in a fabric roll or cardboard. The Bentonite must swell to create an effective waterproof barrier. This swelling occurs generally within 4 hours of contact with water. This system requires the panel to be placed in “the dry” and attached to the concrete. Jan 26, 2019 · Bentonite is used to seal building foundations from wet soil. In other words, the clay acts as a barrier preventing water damage. As bentonite expands in contact with water, it also fills the cracks in the foundation preventing water from getting in. The best approach is to use bentonite waterproofing during the construction phase. Oct 31, 2007 · Bentonite is still popular in blindside waterproofing because it has the ability to heal itself if ripped punctured, or cracked; and once hydrated, the clay is virtually impermeable to water and most chemicals(i.e., acids, bases and hydrocarbons). Unlike other membrane systems that require precise installation, a reactive bentonite compound can expand to seal small punctures in the membrane. Bentonite works by forming a continuous membrane upon hydration with water.
